Brad Ott
in May 1983 was 21-years-old and Chair of the First Unitarian Church Social
Concerns Committee. Namesakes
Dr. John “Jack” Gillespie in May 1983 was President of the First Unitarian
Church and with spouse Millie Gillespie conceived The Community Breakfast as an
organizing venue for progressive social justice solidarity. Katherine “Kit”
Senter (along with Brad Ott) Co-Chaired the Gillespie Memorial Community
Breakfast (1990-2011) and launched its current forum with keynote speaker format
from her work with the League of Women Voters. The Gillespie-Senter Memorial Community Breakfast, apart from a 17-month interruption due to Hurricane Katrina, continues this progressive social justice solidarity, marking forty years since its founding in May 1983.
